Many transport operators are turning to aluminium bodied vehiclesto reduce their tare weight and increase their payload. Transport of mineral sands can present particular problems due to their extremely abrasive nature and this is more extreme with aluminium bodies. Nukote was asked to provide a solution to the excessive wear that transporting and tipping mineral sands was causing to new aluminium end tipper bodies. The solution was to apply a customised liner of Nukote ST with the liner thickness matched to amount of abrasion experienced at each part of the body. This was thickest at the tailgate and thinnest at the front. Before applying the liner, the aluminium was abrasive blasted and primed. The Nukote liner has eliminated abrasive metal loss from the aluminium and can be “topped up” with more polyurea once the liner eventually wears down.
